Angela Bradburns paintings and Amy Lowell's poem connects to the Scarlet Letter in many different ways. To me the poem seems to be show casing a forbidden fruit. For dimmesdale in the Scarlet Letter the romance between him and Hester Prynne are this forbidden fruit. A romance that looks so sweet and divine but truly when bit into and dissected in fairly bitter. Their desire for one another and their desire for normalcy is also exemplified by the desire for the berries described in the poem. The thick skin on berries to me really represents this barrier between the bitter skin and the sweet fruit, which is perfect when comparing the Scarlet Letter because there is a major "skin" in between Hester and the town. Judgement also takes on a role as well.
